Supporting maternal mental health takes collaboration, compassion, and community connection.

The Red Deer & Area Maternal Mental Health Steering Committee is a collaborative, multidisciplinary group dedicated to strengthening maternal mental health supports across Central Alberta. Our members include perinatal service providers, community organizations, advocates, and individuals with lived experience working together to guide accessible, inclusive, and evidence-based resources that support parents and families throughout the perinatal journey.

DID YOU KNOW?

1 in 5 mothers experience mental health problems during pregnancy or within the first year postpartum — but many do not seek support due to stigma, lack of awareness, or barriers to care.

That’s why community connection, education, and accessible support matter.

Podcast Highlight:
Breaking the Silence

One of our committee members shares her powerful personal journey through postpartum psychosis, recovery, and healing in this deeply honest and courageous podcast conversation. By speaking openly about her experience, she helps break stigma surrounding severe perinatal mental health challenges and reminds other parents that support, hope, and recovery are possible.

Breaking the Silence creates space for compassionate conversations around maternal mental health, advocacy, and the importance of feeling seen, heard, and supported.
